Schools in Scotland are required to be open 190 days per year. Typically, a further five in-service days are added for teachers.

The council carried out consultation on the proposed dates, with the majority of people who responded agreeing with the proposal.

Head of Education, Lynn Sherry, said: “We believe that we have come up with a series of school holiday dates for 2027/28 that, while adhering to our legislative requirements, are also in line with previous years and arrangements in neighbouring local authorities.

“We also believe that having these dates confirmed well in advance allows parents to plan ahead.”

In 2027, pupils will return to school following the summer holidays on Tuesday 17 August.

The 2027 September weekend means pupils will be off on Friday 24 September and Monday 27 September.

The 2027 October week will take place from Monday 11 October until Friday 15 October.

Monday 8 November 2027 is an in-service day for pupils, with the last day of term before the Christmas holidays on Tuesday 21 December (2.30pm finish) 2027.

Pupils return to school on Wednesday 5 January 2028. The mid-term 2028 February break is from Monday 14 until Wednesday 16 February.

And the Easter break begins from 2.30pm on Friday 31 March 2028, with pupils returning to school on Tuesday 18 April 2028.

Monday 1 May 2028 is a Bank Holiday, with pupils also off on Thursday 25, Friday 26 and Monday 29 May, except for pupils in Lanark who will have Thursday 8 June and Friday 9 June off for Lanimer celebrations (instead of Friday 26 and Monday 29 May).

Schools will finish for the 2028 summer holidays on Tuesday 27 June at 1pm.
